Katrina was only a category 3 when it made landfall, it was so destructive because New orleans was below sea level. Houston is the nations 4th biggest city, an earthquake in LA or hurricane in NYC(ven a tropical storm) would get a lot of attention.

longhorn- STFU; just because some of us up north are without power for a week compared to being IN the storm the way you were doesn't mean we haven't suffered - seeing as we don't put up with storms the way you do about 6 months out of the year! it's unusual for us, so yeah it's a bit friggin traumatic to our lives. that's like a Filipino coming to Ohio & seeing snow for the first time. they're gonna piss & moan b/c of their freezing toes etc.
