Mt. Kurama (鞍馬山) is located north of Kyoto City and about 30 minutes car ride from the center of Kyoto City. But you can take a scenic train ride on Eizan Railway's (京阪電鉄) Kurama Train from Demachiyanagi train station to Kurama Station (鞍馬駅) in the northeast of Kyoto City.

Mt. Kurama is known for Kuramadera temple (鞍馬寺) and the Kurama Onsen (Hot springs). Both Kuramadera temple and Kurama Onsen (鞍馬温泉) are popular with all tourists but Kuramadera temple with foreigners and the Onsen with the Japanese tourists. But I believe Japanese love both the temple and the Onsen.

In any case, Mt. Kurama is the only mountain in Kyoto City is known to have plenty of dangerous snakes called "Mamushi". But usually they are not visible to typical touristy types, so it is harmless to trek and visit the Mt. Kurama. None of the other mountains around Kyoto have any type of snakes or even any dangerous animals.

Usually this train to Mt. Kurama is pretty crowded and there is a lot of pushing and jostling during a typical train ride, so I took the earliest train possible to get a good video of the ride. The train ride is pretty awesome during fall foliage time. I did the train ride after a little bit after the foliage season. Nonetheless it was awesome.

Kurama station is the gateway for your travels to Mt. Kurama in Kyoto City. Hope you get a chance to visit it. Enjoy..
