My 125 Gallon turtle tank. Home made canopy, overflow and wet dry bucket trickle filter system, low maintenance and very clean. Three red eared slider turtles with minnows, chinese algae eaters, guppies, tetras. Built entire system for about $400, got tank and stand almost free off craigs list, had to reenforce stand and paint black to match decor. Rocks I got from construction left overs (free). They love their new basking area and large area to swim around. Tank is undersized by 15 - 25 gallons of water since its 10 gal for every inch of turle so next tank will need to be bigger once they grow a bit more. There is currently about 90 gallons of water in the tank and 50 between refugium and sump. I should have more swimming area and will in future builds but for now they are happy.

  • Ok but still looks like a fish tank. You should get a 'turtle tank pro 120' they look much better.

Search turtle tank pro 120, you'll wish you brought one. Less than $500

    Sorry

  • @ConstipationFinger Uh, that is the idea. Wanted it to be attractive center pieace in my home and do it myself. the tank pro you speak of is not even half as good as what i have built. I would never buy a pre made setup like that, it doesnt have the right configuration and filtration like my system does. Most pre built systems that can handle turtles cost a ton, over $1200 US dollars. SO appreciate the suggestion but in the end this is just a better system.

  • Try speak driftwood for the ph. Java moss is not a moss that lowers ph. You want peat moss. But most people use peatmoss in their substrate.

  • @Pbuddhafull i dont have an issue with Ph. Its actually always about 7 which is right where i need it to be. I do have drift wood in there now and your are right, it does help for sure.

  • @CRSB1999 Actually that is incorrect. You want to make the turtle feel as "at home" as possbile. Not putting in decor because the owner is lazy and doesnt want to clean is just wrong. If you setup your tank correctly you shouldnt have to worry about debre build up. Also, you need more than a couple inches of water, you need 10 gallons for every inch of turtle, so a 8 inch turtle needs 80 gal of water. Please research your information before posting incorrect information online.

  • Hey, love your tank. I really want a refugium for my 120 now, so I can keep some plants and fish without my RES destroying them. Are you still planning on building that 400 gallon tank? That would be awesome to see.
