ars electronica 2009: couch surfing / VERGENCE 《感 應》short demo

It's an interactive spatial sound concert and installation.
In Chinese, 《感》means to feel ;《應》 means to respond . Both of the characters are based on the same character:《心》 heart .
Three participants are invited to sit on a customized couch surrounded with the spatial sound interface which generates and synthesizes real-time designed-sounds according to the modulation from their individual heartbeat rates(HR). Due to personal perceptual psychology and autonomic nervous system, the participants HR could also be dynamically influenced by the outer sound field. The artist operates and monitors the process. After several minutes, their heart beats might be as closed as synchronous, or in chaos. Therefore they would have a different, unexpected emotional and physical condition. This might be as similar as the forming of human community with different Ideologies and cultures.
