Yes, there are some variations among those toe-holds which I've found via youtube, some of them are actually variations of ankle submissions (to squeeze an Achilles tendon), others are variations of the same technique as узел стопы (foot-knot) and heel-hook (to injury a knee).
@malicesgossips I got this from a combat sambo competition information page. In Sambo you're not allowed to hold the toes, that's correct BUT you are allowed to do a variation of toe-hold submission by holding the middle part of the foot (between the top of the toes and the ankle... the impact is the same but you're not actually "holding the toes". In WCSC you can hold the toes just fine like in MMA. Also, I do Sambo as well and my coach is Master of Sports in Sambo and a World Sambo Champion.
@pcjudosambo it's a bad translation, I guess. Or I have just missed some nuances in English terminology, because the thing, which is called toe-hold in MMA is definitely banned in CS from FIAS. Man, I'm a competitor under FIAS, I know.
The main question is where did you get this document? Another one is what actually they called as a toe-hold, because in Sambo it's a technique with the same mechanics as a heel-hook (to displace a knee joint by foot spinning). It's called узел стопы (foot-knot).
@pcjudosambo oh, beleave me, I know. And no toe holds and heel hooks are allowed in FIAS ;)
WCSC is not popular at all, but some hardcore fighters are really fighting under this org, maybe you're right, and these techniques are actually allowed there.
Oleynik is not a Fedor's teammate. Well, on paper they really are in the same club, but he trains in St Petersburg and Harkov while Fedor trains in Stary Oskol.
@malicesgossips There are 2 main bodies in Combat Sambo (FIAS and WCSC) FIAS uses gloves, head gear and shin protection while WCSC only uses gloves with head gear and shins as option.
Example of both:
watch?v=uAyrE2lkBhs (FIAS) - allows toe holds no heel hooks.
watch?v=py6bkITAEtM (WCSC) - allows both toe holds and heel hooks.
The rules are on their sites.
Fedor competes in FIAS while some of Fedor's teammates (e.g. Oleinik) compete in the other one.
@icontroltheuniverse Well jiu-jitsu and sambo (especially jiu-jitsu) need to be combined with other things. But KRAV MAGA FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

@malicesgossips
FIAS rules for combat sambo stating that toe holds are legal and heel hooks are not:
tournament . i n f o / madoc / rules / Sambo_Combat_Rules . p d f
of course remove the spaces before going to the site.
