Thursday 27th August 2009 saw the usual hustle and bustle of my favourite narrow gauge railway, the Ffestiniog. The trains on this day, were worked by all three of the railway's working Double Fairlie locomotives - Merddin Emrys (built in 1879), Earl of Merioneth (built in 1979) and David Lloyd George (built in 1992). All three engines are seen at Porthmadog Harbour Station, arriving and departing with service to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Single Fairlie 0-4-4 tank engine Taliesin also made an appearance, as she worked the 19:15 PM 'Jazz Express' to Tanybwlch.

This video was shot with the weather in less than ideal conditions - heavy drizzle and strong winds. Please excuse the wind interferance.

  • It is indeed. Shame the weather wasn't quite up to scratch.

  • Shame I didn't see 76079 but I had a great day anyway! I went down to Porthmadog early on in the morning to have a look around it's a great station!

  • Crikey! I was down the Porthmadog end (as you can see), dropping in for a visit after seeing 76079 cross the Barmouth Bridge earlier on. Cheers!
