Barbell complexes are a useful tool in a conditioning program. They can provide a dose of high intensity conditioning stress, yet also take the major joints through a full range of motion with high repetitions. The higher repetitions will lie in the hypertrophy range allowing the maintenance, and even improvement, of lean body even when dropping body fat.

We were doing this in about 110 degree weather. I had squatted and some other stuff while Chris had pressed and done chins.

  • Justin, how much barbell complex conditioning is too much? When does it start to eat into strength gains typically? Thanks

  • @tubermann1 If it interferes with recovery for strength training (when strength training is the goal), then it's too much.

I've never programmed more than two days of barbell complexes in a strength program (or any program for that matter, but it can depend).

  • Holy fuck your arms are short, Justin.

  • I'm following your S&C programme to the letter, and its fucking great. Quick question though, could i throw in this shit as my 'conditioning' on the days you prescribe for conditioning following the strength work? thx man

  • @JLascek thanks for the quick reply. I'm mainly focusing on getting strong, so I think I'll just stick to one day a week and try to manipulate rest times and number of sets, since I'd like to lose a bit of fat but don't want it to cut into limit strength

  • This was way better than I expected. Above and beyond my expectations.

    A new high.

  • This thing had me near puking. Now that says more about me that the complex itself, but this was a fantastic workout. Keep them coming and please elaborate more on the book you mentioned. Cheers.

  • I did that complex today, 4 sets of 5 reps....tough! Great complex.

  • how's that brake job going?

  • Chris is such a porkchop
