Located in Colebrook, CT, the NWCSA range hosted their first Northwest CT Classifier Challenge. Comprised of a 90-round classifier and an additional 10 round stage, I was happy that they kept it nice and simple for an enjoyable Monday evening shoot. I always wanted to put up a video of an IDPA classifier so this was the perfect opportunity to show just how simple it is to complete. All you need is 3 targets, some stands, a barrel, and a makeshift wall to do it. Of course to make it official, you have to attend an official IDPA club, but nonetheless it's pretty easy to practice. I really don't know what was going on in my head today...maybe it was the nice breeze and sunny weather, or maybe it was the fact that I was shooting something that wasn't moving or spinning with hard cover targets throwing off my aim, but for some reason I just could not get my head into being patient. In other words, I shot horrible. If I could make the excuse that my raw time was good, maybe that would make me feel better, but I didn't even shoot smoothly. Oh well, guess I'll be dryfiring a lot this week (especially slide lock reloads brrrr....). If you're curious about the 10 round stage, well you are just gonna have to go to the match to see it! That and I messed up a whole bunch of times following directions so it would have probably added 10 minutes to the video. ;)

Next up, New Bedford IDPA in preparation for Sunday's CT IDPA match in Hartford, CT.

  • Very nice seeing the qualifier. One question is what is your practice regimen like?

  • @dblclick - My live fire practice are matches. Don't really have facilities near me that support free movement and setup yet. Plus every time I shoot it hurts...ammo costs add up! ;) As for dryfire...I do it when I can...but with school and all I have to be honest that I haven't devoted as much time in it as I should. I usually practice reloads, transitions, and awkward starts (one handed, table starts, etc) at least twice a week.

  • Nice shooting. Will you be shooting the PA state IDPA championship in October?

  • @glockrock1 - Yup I just signed up to it! Found out it was only 3 1/2 hours from Manchester so I thought, why not? LOL I will be shooting in the afternoon either on Friday or Saturday. You shooting that match?

  • 1 handed is such a pain for speed and accuracy especially week handed at least for me

  • @condition145 - I actually shot worse with 2-handed in the match versus strong hand and weak hand...I was pulling the trigger faster than my eyes were aligning the sights on target I guess. Same thing happens to me with guns that have DA/SA pulls. DA is always right on the money, but SA goes all over the place when I don't concentrate on the sights.

  • What was your time?

  • Yes, the Char-Broil grills:) I was a rep for their product line along with others in 10 Lowe's in WNC back before major lay offs. Go with the Vermont Casting grill, the best! Yet another fine shooting demo, GG! I didn't noticed before but your G slide is milled open on top, for weight or recoil or both? And before a stage are you planning your shots plus leaving one in the chamber before a mad swap? I'm learning, I hope :) Take Care & Shoot Straight!

  • @gamingoddess Outstanding! I'm scheduled to shoot Saturday afternoon. Really looking forward to it. I'll keep an eye out for you!

  • Very nice shooting. 5/5

  • @jeffshootsstuff - Yup pretty much! Stage 1 is 7 yards away, Stage 2 is only 10 yards away, Stage 3 is 20 yards at the wall and 15 yards at the barrel. In other words, other than the wall, the targets are very close!
