I think it's fine watching anime, playing video games and cosplaying, however, when it consumes someone's life till the point of needing paid companionship, there maybe a problem. Otaku are humans, just like all of us, some are more obsessed by their hobbies than other people's interests. There's nothing really sick about someone collecting figurines, after all, they're collectibles. But when someone has deeply fallen in love with an inanimate object...they should acquire help.
