From the 1987 album "Strawberry Moon," featuring Jean Carne on vocal.

Grover Washington Jr. (December 12, 1943 December 16, 1999) was an American jazz-funk / soul-jazz saxophonist. Along with George Benson, John Klemmer, David Sanborn, Bob James, Chuck Mangione, Herb Alpert, and Spyro Gyra, he is considered by many to be one of the founders of the smooth jazz genre.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Washington made some of the genre's most memorable hits, including "Mr. Magic", "Black Frost", and "The Best is Yet to Come". In addition, he performed very frequently with other artists, including Bill Withers on "Just the Two of Us" (still in regular rotation on radio today) and Phyllis Hyman on "A Sacred Kind of Love". He is also remembered for his take on a Dave Brubeck classic, called "Take Five", and for his hit "Soulful Strut".

  • I love this of course, love Jean Carne, and Grover, but of this song, I think the most original re do is that of Isaac Hayes.

  • I hadn't heard this version in many years. When I heard it suddenly I remember how good it was to hear Jeane and Grover paired up. Their sax and vocals were romance for the ears.

@YOUCOE - Copying is in this truest form af flattery. Although Grover and Jeane were not the first to do this song, they put a classic spin on it that will stand the test of time.

  • a dislike?!!!

  • cool post, dude..

  • Kenny G's a real copycat.!!!................however, it looks like many saxophonists copied this one...however, Kenny G's version is no different from this other than Grover Washington Jr is the master!

  • So wonderful to hear this song by Grover Washington and Jean Carne!!!
