Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith and former SikTh front-man Mikee Goodman have joined forces for a brand new studio project called Primal Rock Rebellion.

Primal Rock Rebellion is the meeting of different minds, different mentalities and different musical backgrounds, but the end result is very much a cohesive, self-produced whole... albeit one that reflects the individual talents of the musicians involved: Adrian provides the guitars, the bass and the advanced song-writing skills.

Adrian : "It was interesting doing this album with Mikee not least because we have quite different influences. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. It has a really fresh feel to it. It was great working at my own pace and in my own studio with no time constraints. I think during the making of this album I went around the world twice with Maiden, working on the project in between. In the process, it allowed for a bit more of an experimental approach.""

Mikee : "This album takes you on a really deep and colourful journey, lyrically and musically. Adrian and I were both very open to experimenting with each others' musical styles and influences, which we feel created something new and exciting. Adrian inspired me in many ways. I learnt the importance and the power of choruses in songs. Adrian also gave me a lot more belief in myself melodically. I think we pulled each other out of our comfort zones, creating something fresh and exciting along the way. We co-produced the album together, and the whole recording process was very relaxed - no deadlines, just honing the songs naturally as we recorded them, a new experience for both of us."

Musicians who also contributed to this forthcoming album include Abi Fry of Bat For Lashes on violin plus original SikTh member Dan Foord on drums, amongst others.
The album was produced by Adrian and Mikee, and mixed by Simon Hanhart, whose previous credits include everyone from Tin Machine to Saxon. The album features 12 tracks top to tail, and it will be available on digi-pak CD, digital download and double coloured vinyl in gatefold sleeve. The track-listing runs as follows:-

1. No Friendly Neighbour 4.53
2. No Place Like Home 3.06
3. I See Lights 4.59
4. Bright As A Fire 6.21
5. Savage World 3.38
6. Tortured Tone 5.08
7. White Sheet Robes 5.16
8. As Tears Come Falling From The Sky 0.47
9. Awoken Broken 4.58
10. Search For Bliss 4.13
11. Snake Ladders 4.43
12. Mirror and the Moon 5.04
The resulting album, is due for simultaneous worldwide release on Spinefarm Records on 27th February 2012.

  • To everyone asking the band members, here you go :)

    Bass guitar : Adrian Smith

    Drums : Dan Foord (SikTh)

  • @ironmaidenisgod glad*

  • @ironfanmaiden nonsense. Believe it or not, adrian feels suppressed in Maiden. Adrian is unhappy with the production of the last few albums. Steve doesn't allow many of his songs on the record and the ones he does allow have been completely "Steveised". Adrian loves heavy experimental and progressive metal so it was only a matter of time he started a side project we should be glass he didn't leave Maiden again. And calling this death metal is blasphemy.

  • @ironmaidenisgod "Steve doesn't allow many of his songs" - Really? He has been a top contributor since the reunion. Yes, Steve is the boss and I know Adrian is not happy about Steve's decisions about the production of the albums, but he has gotten a lot of writing credits all the same.

I'm glad Steve has a lot of input however, considering how generic Primal Rock Rebellion sounds...

  • I have the album, because I am a massive Maiden fan. I was dubious about the vocal style but, after two or three listens it really grows and I must say I think it is a great rock/metal album aside from the fact Adrian is on it. There are only a few parts that you can say really sound like Adrian's normal guitar style or Maiden stuff, it's very different and should be applauded. "Steve does'nt allow many of his songs" BULLSHIT!

  • Love both songs I've heard, and this is probably just me but they need a better name for the band. Primal rock rebellion manages to sound pretentious and silly at the same time!

  • Ya Adrian,this is good bro \m/

  • I love this band man! They have a video out also which is killer as well as the song!

  • i must say its a far cry from his last solo project...this is a must have for any metal fan,not just of iron maiden.but music itself!!!!!!!!..crazy ass solos ,heaviness and killer fretwork, not to mention the drums.......

  • LOve ya Adrian...have for a long time...one of my fave guitarists of all time...but the vocalist you chose here I can't stand.

  • This is cool but the new song:No place like home,is i think much better.

  • sounds interesting...

    i'll keep'em peeled...
