"Every family has a secret".

Official trailer for Thomas Vinterbergs Dogma film "The Celebration" / "Festen". Winner of the Prix Special de Jury at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. Watch it in high quality and in the films original Academy format 1:1.37, as dictated by the Dogma rules.

Synopsis:
A grandiose party to celebrate a sixtieth birthday unleashes a family drama with all the lies that conceal horrendous secrets. The eldest son, Christian, stages a showdown with the popular pater familias; his provocative, moving after-dinner speech dislodges all the masks, which finally fall completely as the father-son conflict intensifies and the bewildered guests look on.

  • Just finished watching this for the first time. Great movie. Well acted by the whole cast. Very sensitive subject but made believable. I love the Dogme95 movies - none of the bells and whistles you get from the trash that Hollywood makes year after year.

  • seen it.. good movie!

  • @Zneekerz and lol that was not an intentional carlsberg reference, but hey!

  • I agree, the trailer doesnt give quite the right picture of the movie, but god damn this movie is a masterpiece. Anyone know what happened to Thomas Vinterberg? Lars Von Trier is worldfamous but I think Festen is better than anything Von Trier has done (nothing against Lars, he has done some amazing stuff, i just think its a shame Vinterberg havent had the same "success").

I'm not a dane but I have to say denmark probably has the best movie directors/producers in the world.

  • This has got to be one of my favourite movie...but I am slightly disappointed with the trailer. It doesn't portray that awkward, choking sense of intensity in the film, but more so like an over-dramatized american reality show ):

  • brilliant flick, and that guy looks EXACTLY like shane macgowan.

  • Saw it today, and I loved it. Verry sad film, however the trailer portraits the movie as if its some sort of action movie. That annoys me a little, while there is a alot of conflict and violence its more of a drama film.

  • @poppylv21 Not very surreal. Very real. This is how it usually happens... Denial to the end.

  • Great film, especially the "speech"scene where Christian droppes a huge bomb and the family parties on like nothing happened. Very surreal.

  • Danish Movies Rules!!

  • does anyone have a link to this movie?
