Some shots of the new Control Room treatment.

It's not finished here... lighting, additional electrical work, painting, and side wall treatments were not completed (not to mention equipment setup). But I thought this was pretty cool, and wanted to share.

  • What does the thing on your ceiling do?

  • It's a bass trap and a space-array. The bass trap (against the ceiling, in red) is 2 inches of absorption material with a 2 inch gap behind that.

    .

Hanging just below the bass trap is a wood space-array, by Auralex. My understanding is that it makes the bass trap work better by directionalizing the sound. Space Arrays are also used to make smaller rooms sound bigger. I'm a little skeptical of the space arrays abilities, but it sure looks awesome.

    .

The bass traps definitely does it's job.

  • i like the clarity of the sound.. *thumb up*

Thank you. I'm pretty happy how this song came out. The acoustic guitar is a Steve Stills signature Martin, there's a real Rhodes 73 key electric piano in there (which I played ;)… lots of real live percussion, and the vocal harmonies are very jazzy. I'm proud to have recorded and mixed this one.

  • studio201recording, whats the song playing?! its awsome!

  • That's an instrumental remix of a song by Cody Road called "Woman" that I recorded.

You can check them out on MySpace if you're interested.

  • @nicklundie sounds like from zelda 64

  • Was going to complement you on construction, but Auralex did it. So nice work, Auralex. Still, very good video - really captures the what and how, and held my attn. If you're a poor musician seeing this (and if you're not you will be soon under my administration) - you can duplicate this look with mineral wool, H.Depot pine, and 'decorative suede' from WalMart. Its called WallMart Elite. LEDE-ish construction with some good diffusion. Nice work, Stuido201
