Prime Minioster Brown said: Let me say I am delighted to welcome President Yaradua to Downing Street today. We have a great deal in common. Nigeria continues to play an essential role in Africa, both through the African Union & the regional group. President YarAdua said: Thank you very much Mr Prime Minister. Let me express my delight for the opportunity to be here and discuss issues that affect my nation & that affect the international community. I feel highly honoured. Britain has always stood with Nigeria throughout its troubles & history, & all Nigerians really appreciate that & our discussions today also confirm this bond of friendship & brotherhood & the readiness of the British government to help Nigeria sort out & solve its most pressing problems: those of malaria, polio; the peace process that we are undertaking now in the Niger Delta region; & helping us to develop the capability for maritime security in the Niger Delta region, & indeed across the entire Gulf of Guinea.
President Yaradua went on to say: I want to thank you again. Mr Prime Minister it has been a great honour & a great pleasure to be here at Number 10 Downing Street. I have had pleasant discussions & the experiences I will treasure throughout my life.
