@lpvcrcd De Reszke! I wish it were him! The great Jean de Reszke made no recordings. His voice does murmur faintly in a primitive cilinder made by the Met librarian Lionel Mapleson during an actual performance at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1901. That recording was issued comercially on Lp records in the 80's, but if you expected to hear Jean's voice, you were in for a disappointment. The Donkey's Serenade was written 11 years after Caruso's death (7 after De Reszke's).

is not caruso, is mario lanza

@hiyadroogs Yes he did, but his English was a lot worse than Mario Lanza's. English was Lanza's native language, and Caruso usually spoke Italian. I have heard Caruso's English was extremely limited.

This is Mario Lanza singing the song. But I think using humorous pictures of Caruso was a nice touch. :)

Respond to this video... lots of fun, thanks

@marilynf The caricatures are by Caruso himself, I'm told he was known for drawing them during breaks in recording or rehearsal. The originals are quite valuable.

Lanza, not Caruso.
Video was fun, though....thanks.

Caruso recorded many songs in english, but he never sang this donkey serenade. he recorded "A Dream" and quite a few others.
