Favela Rising - Part 1/10 - Brazilian Documentary

FAVELA RISING documents a man and a movement, a city divided and a favela (Brazilian squatter settlement) united. Haunted by the murders of his family and many of his friends, Anderson Sá is a former drug-trafficker who turns social revolutionary in Rio de Janeiro's most feared slum. Through hip-hop music, the rhythms of the street, and Afro-Brazilian dance he rallies his community to counteract the violent oppression enforced by teenage drug armies and sustained by corrupt police.

At the dawn of liberation, just as collective mobility is overcoming all odds and Anderson's grassroots Afro Reggae movement is at the height of its success, a tragic accident threatens to silence the movement forever.

In my city in the state of Minas Gerais is different. I am sad to see these pictures and know that the government does nothing directly to address this poverty. I am Brazilian and I want to see Brazil best. I want the state of Rio de Janeiro becomes equal to or better than the state of Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, or the federal district that is Brasilia.

I am Brazilian and I state this to everyone...its not exactly about what is more violent than the other. It's exactly what your stated, KNOW and RESEARCH a new place before wondering about. Even so, you don't find trouble in Brazil unless you truly look for it, JUST like anywhere else.

I Have Been To Rio. Very Beautiful. But when your there it feels Chaotic. LOL. and i have been in a few areas. you can feel the danger. its much different then anything i have ever seen in my life and i have been all over in the states. It's Like Downtown L.A.Times 100. But With Alot More Flavour and Class. Just cuz you live in A Shantytown doesnt mean your not happy. They live in paradise.
