Acoustic Piccolo Bass Jam

It's been too long since my last video so here's a quick glimpse into some of what I'm working on.
In these clips I am playing an acoustic Ibanez bass with piccolo strings on it. The bass is tuned D A D G.

The video and "song" are rough and I even tore a callus during the session! At least it's a new video :)

The set of piccolo strings I am using are D'Addario Electric Bass XL Nickel Wound Piccolo Bass, .020 - .052, EXL280

Albeit standard tuning i have that bass!!

seriously though that technique after the torn calus, any ideas what its called? Im very intrigued by it. Ive only seen it once before

It's kinda like an open hammer pluck, but intead of plucking you do an upstroke with your index finger, more like strumming a guitar. This might be similar to flamenco techniques? The pattern is roughly, rh slap, lh slap, rh slap, rh upstroke. rh means right-hand, lh means left-hand :)

Sure is! Jeff Schmidt is rediculified, one of the most creative piccolo bassists I've ever heard. It also doesn't hurt that he studied and is friends with Michael Manring.

The strings I'm using are D'Addario Electric Bass XL Nickel Wound Piccolo Bass, .020 - .052, EXL280

They play and sound very nice. I also tried the nylon ones by La Bella but they seemed to quiet for what I'm going for.
