The University of Haifa in the Midst of the Carmel Fire

Thousands of acres of forest were destroyed and 44 people were killed as the largest forest fire in Israel's history raged in the Carmel mountains, adjacent to the University of Haifa. The University was evacuated and became the Emergency Central Command for the police, firefighters, and Israel Defense Forces. The blaze proved how vulnerable the University of Haifa campus is to such disasters and in response the University has launched a Carmel Fire Campaign.
