Escolania de Montserrat: Nees' Psalm 103

This Psalm belongs to "Vigília de la Pentecosta" (The Eve of Whitsunday), composed by Vic Nees for Montserrat Abbey in 1973. It was created in the context of the International Composition Meetings, established by Father Ireneu Segarra, which took place at Montserrat in 1968 and in Liverpool in 1975, and whose participants included some of the most important composers of the moment. In 1981, moreover, Fr. Ireneu also helped to launch a Salve composition competition to mark the centenary of the celebrated Montserrat composer Joan Cererols.

Taking our inspiration from these events, we announce the 1st Ireneu Segarra International Composition Competition, with a two-fold aim: to promote the creation of religious music for children's voices, and to foster and reward new talent in the field of contemporary music composition.
