Ok all you people who want to say "bacteria are in all rivers" well than why would they have SIGNS that tell you not to touch the water! Yes, all water bodies contain bacteria. But some contain too many bacteria or too many of the wrong species or strain! Stop using excuses! Many rivers around the world are still in crisis to this day.

who gives a shit. just fish and shut up.

I believe that this can happen in any river in the U.S, especially with the impropper displacement of sewage. But, I also believe that the national parks society and the cities near the river are making a strong effort in cleaning the river. I know it's not yet perfect but it's a start.

All rivers are full of germs and bacteria (I wouldn't recommend drinking water out of any of them w/o purification first) It's bound to happen with fish, frogs, turtles, etc living in them. They tell kids who have turtles as pets to make sure they wash their hands after handling them due to the Salmonella problem. EColi has different strains; it's not surprising to hear it was found in the river.

the river is very clean now... that happening really did embarras the state of Ohio though.. but they did make improvements and things are very easy in Ohio..

Not littering....it all ends up somewhere...and that into sewers and in your rivers. Take after yourself no dumping! Ok that enough from me. Read backwards :P

The watershed of this river stretches through 6 counties. It seemed as though you were putting blame on the Federal Gov. for not having the run off water from the sewage treatment plant completely clean...this is true but they do clean all human traceable contaminants. What people can do is realize that they may be part of this watershed, making sure that there home septic tanks are draining where they need to drain would be a start.

The river has made tremendous improvements since it last burned in 1969. So if you want to swim/fish go right ahead....however it is not suggested you eat more than one meal per week from the river....the same goes for the great lakes (ive been told not certain). But I thought focusing on what can be done to improve the water quality of the river would be an even more interesting topic then simple acknowledging that you wont swim in it.

It's great to see someone so interested in the Cuyahoga River! I realize that you personally would not swim in the river...to yucky for you. However, it saddens me to hear an ohioin talk so poorly about our beautiful meandering river. If anyone is wondering if people do swim in the river the answer is YES! I have many times. Yes it did burn 3 times, but this brought national attention to the river and actually helped create the Clean Water Act.

Would you drink out of most rivers in the U.S. or even the world for that matter? By law they have to keep the river up to a certain level of cleanliness, but that doesn't mean it's filtered drinking water. At least the river doesn't catch fire anymore like in the late 60's.
thank you for this vid & the links. i'm writing a book on rivers and this helped me a lot.
