Philips Electronics today unveiled its 12 watt EnduraLED light bulb, the industrys first LED replacement for a 60 watt incandescent light bulb. Shown for the first time here at the Lightfair International tradeshow, it marks an important breakthrough in the use of LED lighting technology in everyday applications. Consumers will now have an LED alternative to the most commonly used incandescent bulb, which will deliver up to 80% energy savings and last 25 times longer than its century-old predecessor.

  • awesome... lets get away from fluorescents

  • @slade420 The only problem is, as we found in the UK - the more we decrease our electric usage, the higher the price goes to meet the greedy projected incomes companies promise shareholders.

Why are Philips SO SLOW with introducing new technology? They made a bulb 5 years ago that looked normal but had 3 superbright UV LEDs inside. They made a coating on the inside of the bulb glow bright white.

Why can't I buy one of those? Why is technology being held back so much?

  • fuck off phillips im gonna burn whale fat for light

  • @3DFULLHD , what language is that? If that is an attempt at English, you failed!

  • @urbex2007 maybe because of the large competition from other (asian) led manufacturers in the retrofit market ? or imaybe the big companies are aiming other markets like LED streetlighting.

  • How about the powerline dimming technology such as SEAK Energetics has???

  • I found these for $20 after rebate @ Store.EarthLED.com

  • @urbex2007 That and many other new technology held back and never given a chance. I remember seeing a doughnut shaped mobile phone charger that just operated on movement with a mini ac to dc converter attached to it, it won first prize at a national UK engineering talent showcase, that was several years back. Oh well... guess we're being taught that we should manufacture these things ourselves.

  • they need to STOP comparing it to incandescent and compare it to CFL phillips LED (as of today) can not pay for its own cost in electrical savings.

  • ummm I dont think you are the worlds first, but i might be wrong

  • I have a smaller one from Phillips replacing around 35Watts. Very nice lightbulb even when the light is a little redish. But the spectrum is way more complete then a flourescence one has.
