http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/objectified/ "Why do we feel we need to keep revisiting the archetype over and over again?" How does the design of your cell phone, toothbrush or couch impact your life? Did you ever stop to think about it? Director Gary Hustwit (HELVETICA) looks at our complex relationship with manufactured objects, the people who design them and the creative process behind their work. Step inside the offices of the world's most influential product designers to see how these objects influence us—oftentimes without us even knowing it.

OBJECTIFIED premieres Tuesday, November 24 on Independent Lens, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, Independent Lens is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide.

  • those glasses are terrible

  • I'd love to see a show on modern cars.

Specifically how they are only designed to last 8 years and then be trashed,

and that they can be needlessly super difficult to work on, even for consumables which the designers should know will need to be accessed (filters, clutches etc).

    Cheers

  • @670Kiester thats not on the industrial designer, thats on the engineers and such

  • Ever try to figure out shower controls in a hotel? We need superior designers such as Karim Rashid and Dieter Rams to inform design of our products and we must no longer accept those that are not intuitive.

We must stop buying things on price alone, because it invites inferior designs, wasted resources, & polution during manufacture & disposal. So, buy what will serve well & last, otherwise borrow, rent, or do without. Continual replacement for bells & whistles is obscene.

  • @NaThAnPoNkIn Indeed... but it would be awesome!! your cellphone could be a sphere or something xD...

  • @EdgarVenomous makes sense never really thought of that. except for the fact that its not necessarily practical to do that.

  • We have the same shapes for cameras....

    because photos are still squared....

maybe we should have circular pics ;)!

  • this guy is legend

  • That David kelley guy look a lot like Albert Einstein. HAHA

  • Apple should design everything, and put these horrible objects to the dishes

streets benches are horrible, and uncomfortables for exemple

  • He's Karim Rashid
