Thunder Valley Dragway, the crown jewel of IHRA facilities, annually hosted the richest professional drag race with unheard paydays in the Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock divisions. Consider this ... in 1980, Larry Carrier paid a whopping $20,000 to win in both Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions. Pro Stock took home an impressive $10,000.

  • @bugtussel90 -- Thanks for the information. I knew Glidden would run some of the IHRA events back then but didn't know Shepherd did.

  • @1951RKP Yes this is a ihra race,I was there, won my class AFPS in a dodge colt turbo, one of the greatest weekends of my life.

  • Are you sure this was a IHRA event ? IHRA ran 600 plus cubic inch motors back in these days and I never heard of Lee Shepard running anything nut the NHRA 500 C.I.
