Not impressed with folks that stand up in canoes. Or 'rig' their 'testing' by the way they set the tinder and fire between the different 'kettles'.Additionally, my kk comes with cooking hardware, does this copper thing? And lastly, the kk does come in a size approximately the same as the copper unit.

What an incredibly biased video! I know, lets dunk the fire base of one not made in the USA in a river, and then see if it lights as well! Rubbish!!!

i prefer the thermette to the kettle because the thermette is much more stable because the kettle is smaller on the base than the kettle is so it's inherently unstable. the only thing going for the kettle is it's wide mouth spout.

i agree with exploring18's comments and would like to add that these kettles rely on a good airflow. the kk was more sheilded from the wind so took longer to fire up. next time sit to the side of the kettle. mine usually takes under 4 mins to boil. i would be happy with either kettle on my canoe trips.

If you are going to mainly boil water either product seems to do the job. Boiling this amount of water in that amount of time is great you hardly miss 10 min out your life. This way you just need a charcoal filter and you have water that is as delicious as from your tap at home no chemical needed. You can carry a few ounces of charcoal to refresh your filter you would have great water for a long time. It is possible to stay in the wild for extended periods.

With a few feather sticks, my Kelly Kettle will light up just as quickly as the Thermette did in this demo. The fact that they soaked the fire base completely nullifies their so-called test.

I read in a forum that the thermette is now made in china and the build quality is poor. I have an eydon storm kettle, same as the kelly, the only thing I would change is the handle which puts your hand over the chimney!!! Not a good idea! Other than that - I love it! Thanks for posting.
It was bias - first you wet the kelly's bottom fire pan because you didn't take it out when you filled it - then you wasn't putting hardly as much tinder you did as you put in the thermette - Totally an unfair experiment, the kelly done well even with your misuse.
