This is a very limited, short comparison of my Mt. Vernon Mercedes and New York Stradivarius Bb Bach cornets; for which I was selling the Mt. Vernon on the Trumpet Herald/eBay. The Mt. Vernon was SOLD and is no longer available by me.

Serial #s:
Mt. Vernon 13,300
NY 10,744

Mouthpiece: Parke 655-300-22 Merkelo cup, Merkelo 22 bronze backbore, Bach 1B rim

This is in no way an attempt to show off my playing or anything musical; just a sound/tone comparison off the top of my head.

*Note: This was filmed on the stock MacBook camera and mic. The imagine is reversed. Not a left-handed horn!*

  • I would like to know if the strad is for sale.

  • @LeonelAlexanderLeon Actually, I've thought about listing it for sale recently because I need the money more, sadly. I'll have to think about a price. Send me a message if you're still interested.

  • I like the sound of the New York myself, it has a darker more lyrical sound to it. You have a nice tone, keep it up ;)

  • @Huskyowner2007 Unless you collect them don't go out of your way to buy one for names sake. I had a 1938 Strad and it wasn't all that great to play and preferred my 81 model over it. Then again to each their own!

  • I used to play on a Mercedes (mk1) trumpet when I was a kid. It was an awesome horn!

  • eBay and the trumpet forums are the best places. The Horn Trader is another place. And rarely they are cheap--which is a relative and subjective term. More beat up, the cheaper generally. But you can find deals on them.

  • It's pretty rare, but yes, they do exist. As far as I'm aware, it's all a custom situation.

  • strangely enough i preferd the mercedes...

  • @WAKeele Oh... but are there left handed trumpet or cornet made? Because I'm left handed

  • That's because my MacBook reverses the imagine in the application I used to record it--which is a pretty basic program for the built in camera.
