@doctorw2 The British version is much better as it is the original... which is why the USA copied it...as they do with a great many British shows. You just cannot beat the Brits for good, clean, wholesome 'Situation Comedy'.

They showed both versions in NZ and sorry but the other version was way better, a tragi-comedy about people coping with being left and being alone. It's just that they were working in different television traditions and emphasised fewer and rougher elements in this version. Pity because Americans can do tragicomedy quite well.

I remember they had some of the episodes up here but they were removed. It might have been by Viacom. We did these at Paramount and Viacom owns all that now. I would imagine they own this show but it is possible it is owned by a production company. I wish they would leave them up at YouTube. If nothing else it is good advertising for the show.

Hi. Yes I was in every episode. All 90 plus the pilot. I never saw the British version but I have heard it is great. I think this is being shown on cable again because I am getting some little checks once in awhile.

Judd Hirsch is just unbeatable in anything he's in. He's a natural with that sad bloodhound look. They 're just re-running this series in Canada. I recall the original UK series which was superb (written by John Sullivan who so many great sitcoms like "Only Fools & Horses") Took me awhile to get used to the USA version but most of the episodes are wonderful.
