Christopher Hitchens is one of the most prolific and controversial writers in the English-speaking world. A prominent atheist, he is the author of "God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything," which became an international best-seller in 2007. He has also written books on topics ranging from the partition of Cyprus to Thomas Jefferson and the Anglo-American relationship; his most recent is the memoir "Hitch 22."

RFE/RL writer at large James Kirchick recently interviewed Hitchens at his home in Washington about his left-wing revolutionary past, his views on America, Iran's nuclear program, Turkey's Islamist turn, Putin's Russia, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and sampled his views on a variety of international figures.

In this introductory segment, Hitchens discusses his political coming-of-age amidst the revolutionary fervor of the 1960s, and what "revolution" means today.

  • how does he know so much?! does he read history and politics 24/7?

  • Thank you for posting this, rferlonline.

  • @slimone87 Anger anger anger you're wrong you're stupid anger anger punisher-complex, etc., etc...

    Sadly, you're like Hitchens here.

  • @parafleet fuck you're an idiot

  • I suggest that you type Hitchens-Mother Teresa and watch the documentary of those who witnessed personally her refusal to bring aid to the children she purported to help but insisted that they are where they belong. I too believed that good was done until I saw the absolute ignorance and hypocrisy of this wretched woman who kept curable children away from care they needed and in her building of suffering. Donations from dictators, building hundreds of convents and few health care facilities.

  • @parafleet You must not of read or listened to hardly anything this man has done--If you meant his attack on Mother Teresa, he brings up some very valid points which are undeniable so I know you must not of heard it. If you mean he is angry at religion or evil/ corrupted/ stupid people and their actions than I'd be hard pressed to find an intelligent person who isn't.

  • His life's work? He just complained about everything. It wasn't funny either. It was bitter and evil-spirited. Whenever he tried to stick up for the oppressed, he'd manage to put down some old nun who spent her time wiping poor, sick kids' asses. Anger was Hitchens's opiate, and that's all I'll remember of him after he's gone.
