Without that,,no d&d

4th edition doesnt suck, it just slightly blows. I like 2nd ed and 3.5 played 4th a few times..decent..doesnt really feel like d&d ..more like a board game
-
that would of been my first guess but i couldnt remember which came first. Thanks for the Info

@ChillyMan5 I'm pretty sure that aside from a lack of beards on the women, D&D dwarves were taken from Tolkien just like his version of elves.
-
plus didn't D&D dwarf kind of inspire the dwarfs of all the other games we see today.
Though what inspired D&D dwarfs is beyound my knowledge

i bought a 2nd edition player handbook from a used book store in exelent condition

Sorry pal, but D&D dwarves have always looked that way. Plus, tieflings have also been around since at least 3rd, and even back in earlier editions with their beta version the alufiend. Besides, WoW ripped off D&D, so it's only makes sense D&D gets to take a little from WoW. Who gives a **** if the game mechanics are simplified, the DM's a story writer, and he can do whatever the hell he wants to create that epic journey for his players.

i agree with manawolf - the DM is in complete control of the storyline and people shouldn't rely completely on the game system to entertain and challenge them. As long as your DM can create and orchestrate a challenging game with the new rules you will enjoy this game as much as with 3.5 -
