I would be curious if you have looked at if you could run a Lister engine of a gasifier?
Listers are an amazing generator with a long track record of use on homesteads etc. If they can be combined with a gasifer it would really make a very practical long term off grid fuel and gen set combo.
I think an industrial sized gassifier is a great idea. If you can burn 20 tons of scrap lumber into charcoal and send the the electricity back onto the grid or into batteries???
well all the engine need to work is H (hydrogen) and after engin work cycle it will change to water vapor . So like i said after you pass steam thru heated charcoal you have CO and H2 so after you can separate them use H2 as fuel and CO is re-used to water gas shift reaction to produce even more hydrogen which means more fuel !!!! once again its very intresting search "water gas shift" wikipedia cheers from poland wojsciech
i just wanted to add my 2 cents , have you ever tryied to inject steam from the bottom ? where the charcoal is? well when you gasifie wood you make "woodgas"which is H2 and CO and the byproduct is charcoal which is 98 percent C "carbon" and as we all know when you have heated charcoal and you pass steam over you make CO and H2 !!!! so you can double the fuel production search wikipedia for "water gas" reaction cheers from poland wojsciech
