TATA STEEL BULLETS

Amin 'Shyam' Banara died due to a bullet in his chest a little before the noon of of 1st May 2008. The bullet was one of the many that were sprayed by a gang headed by an accomplice of Tata Steel Co. Ltd. Since 2 January 2006 more than a dozen people's memorials have been installed and all of them died the same way comrade 'Shyam' Banara did. They were murdered by gun-toting people who were trying to force them from their lands where Tata wants to build its steel factory.

The date 2/jan/06 is firmly etched in history as a day when democracy along with men, women and children was murdered. From that day the lines have been clearly drawn by the people of area. Those who lost their kith and kin mourned the personal loss but also respected the martyrdom of those who sacrificed their lives for their motherland. On March 13 08 another brave activist of the Kalinga Nagar Anti-Displacement People's Forum was shot from behind while he was returning on a motorbike from a market with his wife and mother riding pillion. The incident happened in front of the police station but the assailants are yet to be caught.

Jogendra Jamuda is alive but the the bullet is yet to be taken out of him. Like him many activists of the Forum are in Tata's hitlist. The man who shot Shyam Banara introduced himself as Arbind Sing of Tata Steel Co Ltd. to Daburi Kalundia an activist of the Forum before attacking him with the help of armed gunmen in his Toyota SUV. Arbind Sing is said to be a contractor from Jamsedhpur who has been doing jobs for Tata in Kalinga Nagar including the job of creating a reign of fear and terror.

The quest to grab the land from the people by Tata involves a lot of accomplices like Arbind Singh. Some of them work in newspapers that create a good public image of Tata while falsely implicating the activists as extremists and cadres of outlawed Maoist groups. Some of them are upper caste people in the area who act as the dalal of the company who comes knocking on the doors of lonely houses. These dalals are said to target those who seem to be weak and can be easily cowered into submission without having to lose a superficial sense of pride accepting the company's offer to join the Tata family at the transit camps at the rehab colonies.

Free liquor is made available to the fence sitters who let go of their land and drink themselves silly enough to not see girls from the Tata camps being abducted and raped. The state of women and children is most vulnerable when murderous perpetrators are set loose on the streets. The police has so far killed the maximum number of people, so to expect that they would help is foolishness. The administration never registered the voices of protest while announcing that the Govt had decided to take over their lands under the most draconian colonial relic, the Land Acquisition Act. that is used to good advantage by the likes of Tata all over India. It is also used to good advantage in Kalinga Nagar by the nexus constituted by a plethora of Tata's dalals; namely ministers, bureaucrats, contractors and mafia while dead bodies of innocent people and activists pile up.
