The "Lechfeld" Battle
Soundtrack Title - "winds of war" by vvsmusic
--------------------------------------------------
Otto .I the Great (23 November 912 in Wallhausen -- 7 May 973 in Memleben), son of Henry I. the Fowler and Matilda von Ringelheim, was Duke of Saxony, King of Germany, King of Italy, and "the first of the Germans to be called the emperor of Italy" according to Arnulf of Milan. While Charlemagne had been crowned emperor in 800, his empire had been divided amongst his grandsons, and following the assassination of Berengar of Friuli in 924, the imperial title had lain vacant for nearly forty years. On 2 February 962, Otto was crowned Emperor of what would later become the Holy Roman Empire.

  • this is true. Otto recognised the strength of the Hungarians, he knows the advantages of the quickness and light rider of the Hungarians with arrow and bent. but collected all fighter with there long weapon, the long lance against the enemy and won the battle against the hungarians. the german knights were wearing modern chain shirt for protecting against enemy arrows.

this is the story, the video is showing and telling.

  • Isnt this that battle where Czech and German forces were victorious above Hungarian raiders and make them to settle down at least and establish Hungary?

  • @Retarior

  • @religiofob because the magyars began to full retread when they met a powerfull force.the mongols made of course pseudo retreads when they oponnent was strong and they where no cowards.the magyars had the power to destroy the germans but they run.cowards

  • @MrKaskelen

Why do you claim the Magyars were cowards?! it was a normal tactics of nomad warriors: archers attack, then simulated escape and archers strikes again... This tactics was succesful - notice the unimaginable victories of Mongols in 13th century. Not before 17th c. Europeans learned how to fight against this tactics.

  • great job and great video :). I would just add some info about the Czech troops (as a czech myself) in the battle if I may. Prince Boleslav had to leave most troops in Bohemia to block off the invading enemy attacking in that direction (in coordination with Otto´s army) and thus had send "only" 1000 cavalry (knights) to the battle. But they were the best he could send in. The battle is immportant to our history too, because we regained control over most of Moravia thanks to it.

  • Whats the title of the movie?

  • @Thommys111 the archery skills of the magyars were brilliant but they were cowards.that was point they lost at lechfeld because they become panic and want go mama but they go to hell.dont worry they deserved it.

  • @Thommys111

They lost, like in 907. However, Ottos victory was very important for the Germans AND the Hungarians. This was the first time, germans had a really battle on German land, not just stopping some Hungarians on the way home after a raid. This was only one of three battles on Lechfeld, but by far the greatest for Germans. Otto was the first leader, who really understood the hungarians. Who knows their war tactic was more brilliant than barbaric. Because he himself was it too!

  • @Thommys111

it is claimed, Otto had "only" 10.000 men. In reallity he must have far more. In AD 907 Germans gone to Hungary with over 80.000 men! The Hungarians had not mor than 40.000 to defend their land! The germans lost tragically. Otto was a brilliant leader, so wasn't stupid to try that with 10.000 men. The hungarians had in this battle only a few thousand, not 20.000! After this victory, it took still 75 years (AD1030), until germans dared to go on hungarian ground.

  • The "history" says, hungarian was fleeing and united german troups blocked their way. Only partly true. Hungarians war tactics was ALWAYS to simulate a retread, to exhaust the enemy and then kill the follower with arrows like Huns did. They had no heavy armor, so THEY could decide the distance between them and the follower. The problem here was, Otto knows that and was blocking the path. So the hungarians had no choice and had to fight against Ottos heavy armored troups.

  • Musik und Filmsequenzen passen perfekt !! Sehr gute Arbeit !! Gefällt mir !!
