A Christmas Motet by Giovanni Gabrieli (c.1557-1612)
Brisbane Concert Choir
Musical Director: Debra Shearer-Dirié
Soloist: Nicki Jenkins
Organ: Steven Nisbet
St Andrew's Uniting Church, Brisbane
2 December 2007

Our choir has been invited to sing at Advent Festivals in Prague and Vienna in November/December 2008. Australia is a long way from Europe, so some of our student members need some help to get there. We're doing lots of fundraising, but if you would like to donate a little or a lot, please go to:

  • Je trouve votre interprétation superbe.

    Bravo

Je chante a l abbaye de marmoutier a tours en France qui a un lien d'amitié avec Brisbane

  • I've never heard this setting of "O Magnum" but I love Gabrieli! So beautiful. I sang a 3 choir Gabrieli piece ("In Eclesiis") with my community college choir, a brass choir, and organ. It was amazing!

  • Gratiarum actio ad Deum.

  • Where did you grow up Idhenson?

  • Marvelous!

We heard it in Church today!

    Deo Gracias

  • Me too! I kept looking through different versions, trying to find the one we sang back in our school choir. All the other versions were beautiful but they weren't the one I remembered. Finally I hit upon this one and it all came flooding back. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for posting this. Everyone thought I had gone crazy and was making up this version. And this wonderful choir is singing it. I performed it with double choir. Low bass part which I hear the organ playing.

  • Thank you for posting this. This says Christmas to me. What a soul-stirring rendition!

  • Hi! Nice to hear from another chorister on the other side of the world. You might be interested to take a look, listen and (hopefully) laugh at my humorous piece A Choral Menagerie which is on YouTube. It's for SATB choir. Cheers, Ian Maurer (Brisbane, Australia)
