You definitely have a point with the word "empowerment" being used more so in a political setting and in reality it doesn't need to be. :)
-
@PoeticSoul0811 To be honest I was thinking about this again and I think the word "empowerment" is an overused political buzzword these days. It gets thrown around like nothing but not everyone has the same understanding of its meaning. To me, this was a great video but with that word it seemed as if people were passing up the point that birth is awesome just to make a political statement about women's abilities.
-
@PoeticSoul0811 Good points! and I actually agree with you. I think the ability to make a person is fabulous and it should be as natural as possible for the good of both mother and child. And we certainly need to know options so we can do what's right for our individual situation. I just take issue with the word "empowerment" as it applies to this situation. Birth is so wonderful I was just wondering why some people look for more out of it. I though it shoudld be rewarding enough on its own.
-
Now again, I do apologize for some of the blunt statements made. But all this video does is to make us more aware of our options instead of being relegated to lying on a hospital cot, legs spread for everyone to see.
My view on birth is that it was meant to be intimate. Surely, a doctor was not present at the (most likely uninterrupted) conception of the child, in which we trusted our bodies to do what it does best.
Inform women, no fear, no shame.
That's my rant. :)

Not all women should be lumped into following line by line the advice of doctors, when considering the ONLY role of hospitals were initially for hygiene purposes.
Nowadays, hospitals as clean as they might be carry MRSA and other unmentionables.
At the end of the day, it's a woman's choice to decide how she can deliver. But a women should be empowered to seek all alternatives, including placing trust in our bodies to do what is was meant to do with or without intervention.
-
And I'm sorry if this comes of as ranting, but humans still play a role in the animal kingdom based on science.
Either way all LIVING things can be backed up by science or God, depending where you swing.
However, if you view birth as "so what?" you should have had the respect to drop it there.
That type of negativity, the unwillingness to be open-minded that is truly the root of all things evil.
Empowerment is about seeking knowledge and what is best for the INDIVIDUAL human.
-
What kind of question is that? There's nothing wrong with female empowerment, considering that for the longest time, women were treated as objects. Just objects,
The role we play in the creation of life should be celebrated, not belittled.
It's bad enough that women are subjected to commercialism that states that we're not good enough.
It's the creation of life and some women don't have the ability to do so or are being reduced to being baby making machines...less than human.

exciting! Looks like a TON of fun! I looks forward to watching :D I absolutely loved my physiological birth. 48 hours no drugs no interventions baby!! and let me tell you, no matter what this baby can do, I can handle it, because I gave birth to him and felt every moment! 48 hours makes you really decide what you want, and I am so proud for choosing right for my son. It's not just about that I feel like a superstar, but that I gave him the healthiest first moments I could.
I forgot to mention...I first worked in the USA hospital system for 20 years and then another 2 years in Australia before attending my first home birth. It was so different from anything I had ever witnessed and beautiful beyond description. Home birth for me, was seeing birth as it 'should and could be' for the very first time in my life, it was liking waking up in a new universe. Thank you universe :)
