IMPORTANT INFO HERE!
We do a lot of artists the request that chroma key background, I think because they import into video software that has chroma key features. With that being said, if you are just doing photo work, you will avoid many extra steps if you shoot subject on a Light Gray Seamless Background. Keeping it neutral will eliminate the color cast spillover into the subject area.

  • hi photoshopmama, i'm having difficulty getting the "cancel cast spill" layer to work... I have followed the precise instructions and when I go to "paint" over top of the hair using the hair colour (alt-click), the spots do not change into the hair colour. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

  • @afterSHOcKsStudios Make sure your brush is in Normal Mode at 100% Opacity and than your cancel cast spill layer is not in Normal mode but in Color Mode at 40-70% Opacity.

  • good tutorial but why does everyone use green? Why not blue or red or any other color the effect would be the same with any

  • @fucut00b Everyone doesn't use a green screen. Typically for video one uses a green or blue screen because software for video has the functionality to remove that color for an Alpha (transparency) channel. Alot of our clients do take the photos into video---but if you don't have that software then this is one way to extract in Photoshop. Typically, for just photo's we shoot on a white background and then the process is simpler in my opinion.

  • Background eraser technique doesn't quit work good with low res. pictures mama..... What is your opinion about that?

  • @wazupsam Totally agree about low res images, not much of anything works as well on a low res compared to a high res....that's why you should always edit on a copy of the high res and than downsample if needed.

  • Wow that's what you got out of this series? So---you sound like you're fat and have Attention Deficit Disorder.

  • @novado32 The best advice I can give is that if you KNOW you are going to extract, then put your subject in front of a background that is simple and provides a clear difference between the hair color/ and the background color...otherwise extracting will become a very long process because you'll have to zoom way in and hand paint the mask...in other words, you will be drawing the wisps in. There is no magic to get a brown haired girl out of a similarly colored patterned or textured background.

    Note :

    My system Win 7

    u can help me ???

  • These techniques really aren't designed for greenscreen removal. Extract and Eraser tools just don't work professionally. The true way to do it is in the channels. You can see how it works at photoshop-illustration(dot)blogspot(dot)com. The tools you mention are for more complex backgrounds, but greenscreen is used precisely because of how it works with the channels. That's what the pros use.
