  • Well, so you got me with you there - at least in the case of marihuana. However, some drugs, like heroin, actually cause incredible indirect harm to others, and the use thereof ends up being a serious social problem - dammit, if you want an example, just come to Oslo. The central parts of the city are littered with heroin junkies, scaring away tourists and causing crime. Unless we come up with some brilliant way of solving this problem, I think that at least heroin should be illegal...

  • I disagree. While I certainly don't want to downplay the dangers of Heroin; most of the social ills associated with this drug are actualy caused by the prohibition. And cheap, clean heroin would eliminate many of them.

  • Is that Gogol Bordello in the background?

  • Yep. "Not a crime" from Underdog World Strike.

  • I agree. + Industrial Hemp & Marijuana are THE two most useful plants on the planet. It is pharmaceutical companies & congress that are most to blame in the lack of progress in its legalization. The medicinal benefits of cannabis in its natural form would overcast & cripple the industry of prescribed drugs. A plant cannot be patented & thus no company can ever claim rights to its design (and full ownership).

  • two reasons

second hand smoke and the society you live in has to cover the cost of your health (sickness) care

I do not think manay governments are going to make cigarettes illegal anytime soon even though there are cost

  • did you forget about the danger of tabbacosmoke?

(I meant the bad air that is there when someone smokes?)

  • >>> However the simple transition will have great consequences on public health.

  • I don't agree with you. Once cannabis is really legalized you get companies that start mass producing and distributing the stuff it will cost nothing. People will be able to buy the stuff for the same price as coffee. That means the stuff will be smoked more. younger kids will be able to afford it. Also smoking may be very harmful it's not keeping people in a constant high that avoids them to do their daily tasks. Probably in the long run people will learn to be responsible. >>>

  • How about the law that one must have a seat belt on when driving... ah, yeah, you could fly in to someone and harm them too, but hmm... that is also the state acting like a parent (like with the drugs).
