Thermic flying Cwmbran. Finding that first thermal.

Demo of flying a light thermic day. Very late in the day, about 7 pm in June 2010. The day was very hot with light winds. Cwmbran is quite a big hill with a town in the valley below which heats up and sometimes releases it's heat in the early evening. I got there just as the hill face went into shadow. Knowing that this would probably shut down any lift on the hill the only option was to see if I could find a thermal to get up in. There is a clump of trees just out from takeoff and slightly up hill from a farm at the foot of the hill. Worth a go especially if you can get a few signs!

Ah, very nice, good to read the comments aswell. Might check out Cwmbran on google earth in a minute and see if I can find that location, ..shouldn't be too hard.
