  • yeah for the tradition to be upheld you can't circle breathe. it takes years of practice to actually learn how to do it right.

    some people compare it to blowing a trumpet, but it's actually much harder than that. there's a lot more resistance, plus the horn itself is thick and the opening is smaller usually too.

    i know our congregation had one shofar blower for about 25 years until his lungs finally couldn't do it anymore, but he had been working with his son the whole time.
