  • Except for the man who actually won the race Moitessier had also entered, Robin Knox-Johnston was the first man to single hand non-stop. Check your facts.

Winning a race was never a priority for this man, as with all enlightened men, he raced himself.

  • Actually, tubelogin1 is correct. Moitessier started out 3000 miles behind Knox-Johnston and was rapidly catching up to him.

Moitessier crossed his outward path in the South Atlantic before abandoning the race. Knox-Johnston never crossed his outward bound path before he returned home to England - so technically, Moitessier beat him to it.

By Knox-Johnston's own admission in his book 'A World Of My Own', if Moitessier had stayed the course, it would have been a very close thing.

  • he's so French and existential!

  • No. I'm not sure he even crossed his outbound track (until he went round Cape Horn again). Not that it really matters, as he did do it partly to "keep going" and also, as he put it "to avoid losing his soul" by going back to a life on land that held no attraction for him.

The comments about Knox-Johnston below are just stupid. Tubelogon ("they're incurably diseased") is clearly a racist in denial

  • Moitessier was the epitome of enlightenment. I wish I could have met him. I wish there was more of this clip. Joshua looks wonderful. Rest well after your long Journey.

  • He Didn't finish the race , He was going to win but he turned around and went around the world again. i think he finally stopped in the Tahitian islands

  • is that joshua!? thats not bernard sailing it in this video surely... wheres the vessel at now?

  • didn't he cross the line after a round the world race and didn't stop, he kept going to do it again? is that correct.?

  • Joshua looking beautiful, sail to the moon Moitessier!

& to all the dumbasses with no knowledge of history bashing the French...they took Continental Europe & didn't surrender in WWI......wasn't that the Germans?

  • Yes I love the sheep and ghoat but more I love the micheal moore his is man I love man

  • tubelogin1 likes to have sheep and goats take him up the arse. He's a closet bestiality fan, and is insecure about that. That's why he's so offensive. Please, come over and let our sheep master you, tubelogin1. I know all that political shit you're spouting is just a cover for your animal loving ways. I know you'd love to bleat a little louder with some sheep trotters over your back. Come on, don't hide it!

  • yes, i agree. Bernard Moitessier's chief achievement isn't the first solo non-stop circumnavigation. it's the break with the evil, the giving up of the silly competitive race and sailing away to save his soul. right!

and look at it. the britzies are still at it. pompous bastards. rubbishing Bernard. rubbishing the IDEAL.

knox slips in, that little racist, to "win" the race. they're incurably diseased, competitive tobies of the NWO nazis and proud of it. facts and truth don't matter to them.
