1. Bill Maher is raised catholic; catholics are prone to become atheist.

2. Bill Maher was raised by mixed religious parents.

3. Bill Maher went only to church on Sunday.

You 'proofed' how Bill Maher could become atheist, not the ridiculousness of the statements in his film.

I find it shocking that you as a father are proud of the fact that your child rather relies on a invisible man than on herself.

The two are not totally mutually exclusive. We are teaching her to be a reliable, responsible, independent little woman. But she also needs to understand that she was created by a loving God, and that there is more to life than what the world tries to sell you. We are responsible people, go to work, pay the bills, but we also know who is ultimately in control. That humility is what we are teaching our daughter.

So these nice, intelligent kids, are brought up to NEVER disobey, to NEVER leave the religion because this would be the same as them leavinng the community, and they are then looked down on. I have SO MANY Atheist friends who still go to church and tell others they are christian just to avoid persecution from their so-called religious family. Bottom line- Religion should not be tied to any other aspect of living because it is not needed. This is just an extra personal belief.

No, these mega-churches tie community into religion, when this is not morally right. I've had kids spit on me, scratch my car, and even burn their religious symbols into my dad's lawn because I am not part of their church, and therefore(in their minds, their sick, deluded minds) not part of the community: an outsider : less of a person.

Any "christian" who supports death penalty or war has NEVER READ the bible. jesus says "love thy neighbour" "do not hate your enemy" "do not kill" all christians go against these.

I don't think being disillusioned with the Catholic church would have much impact on whether or not you can believe in the supernatural. One is an emotional thing, the other an intellectual. No matter how religious your parents are you will still, notwithstanding a high-level brainwash, come to the same conclusion somewhere in your life. The conclusion you come to will be depend on your proneness to suggestion. Some people, no matter how many times they are fearmongered, just aren't suggestible.

Isn't church where you learn the dinosaurs became extinct because there wasn't enough room on Noah's Ark? Isn't church where your learn that other faiths are wrong but yours is right?
