  • Now I know how gamma camera works. Thanks to this video

  • Could a pet scanner coz of his higher resolution replace a gamma camera or are they limited to the applied tracers? So a pet scanner can´t detect gamma rays coming from technetium 99m which are important when scanning Thyroid.

  • It doesn't detect gamma radiation as such but the flashes of light when gamma fotons hit the NaI material.

  • gamma radiation has a unique energy for the type of radiation being detected. when the camera is set to see only this energy, a image is produced. the actual process is very involved. the easiest way to explain this to a patient is to tell them "we are taking an x-ray from the inside out."

  • how is gamma radiation detected by the gamma camera?
