I am a staunch Scottish Nationalist and I can understand the sentiment behind these words. It is unfortunate that some/many see it as sectarian. It is a folk song and like many folk songs it tells a story. If people want to be influenced in a certain way, then that is their right but not to resort to violence. Colonialism has a lot to answer for throughout the world as the effects are still being felt today.
