@rockhopper10r Of course, it also depicts kids as running amuck in the hotel. That probably wouldn't be allowed either.

One of the first to feature minorities (and cartoons at that) in the commercials --this really did not happen much before 1968

How come the WHITE GIRL stole the cake from THE BLACK MAN! That's so racist!!!
Lucious Licky Lollies? You can get arrested for saying that shit these days!

The announcer for this "HJ's"Tv plug
is Bob McAllister for NBC Tv's "American
Rainbow"series.

I only hope to see a Howard Johnson's again in my lifetime if the new owners of the namesake can bring it back as they claim.

It's a shame that all but four HoJo's restaurants have closed. They're supposedly making a comeback (I hope).
This commercial is precious. The kids' chorus is sweet. Of course HoJo's was a Massachusetts-based company, so you can hear the Boston accents in the singing.
It wouldn't fly today. It would be accused of promoting unhealthy eating habits or some such. On the other hand, the fact that its "cast" is racially diverse would have been unusual for the time.
Thanks for posting this!

what a shame that Times square Howard Johnson's was forced to close,...
Sadly the last HoJo's in Times Square which was located at 1551 Broadway and 46th St. was demolished--not remodeled. Juniors is on 45th and Shubert Alley.
