WITF-TV Harrisburg, PA's Transition to Digital Television (DTV) on February 17, 2009. This video shows the last 10 minutes of WITF's Analog signal up to the point that it ended. • WQED analog went off on june 12 2009 not Feburary 17 2009 but were you live in harrisburg is it in pennslvania becase pittsburgh listen to congress and for pitsburgh WQED (PBS) went bye bye check out my videos leave me a comment

  • yea, you are correct, not every station went digital on feb 17, sorry for the unclarity. 2 weeks b4 feb 17, Congress enacted a bill that allowed stations 2 choose whether they wanted 2 end their analog broadcasts on feb. 17 or the new date of june 12. Some stations, like WITF, and others decided to go all-digital on feb 17 as they had been promoting the date for some time. Others, like WQED, decided to extend their analog cutoff to june 12, giving viewers more time 2 get ready.

  • good by analog. rip along you were a good friend. we have come a long way

  • yeah, it really is sad to see it go, after it has been around for so long. the funny thing about this cutoff is the fact that viewers were not warned on TV when the analog was to end. I had to look on the stations website to find out when it ended, and it ends so suddenly. no warning, like "hey, your losing this station today at 10", or like a minute or so before, "hey your losing this station in a minute. the station just goes away in a split second. so sad.

  • It's really too bad so many stations have chosen to not have any sort of transition, save for a crawl. My area is not transitioning until June, but I've been watching YouTube rather closely to see how stations in other markets have handled it. There have been some stellar examples of stations that recognize the historical component and didn't just treat this like a technicality.

  • yea it is. With this station, there wasnt even a warning as to what time it was shutting off the analog signal. I had to go to the stations website to find out the time. I bet alot of people were mad when 10am rolled around and the tv went dark. The crawl that you see at the top of the tv screen only told of the date when the signal would go dark, it never mentioned a time. One other station went dark the same day as this station. all the other stations will switch in june.

  • Actually WITF was one of the first stations in the country to get Digital equpment

  • Pennsylvania Public Television - Digital Television Transition (2007)

  • I was watching channel 24 here in Baltimore on a SD digital set in analog because it was the only channel that my old antenna (15 year old set rabbit ears) wouldn't pick up in digital and I went to use the bathroom and when I came back, it said WUTB Channel 24 is now discontinuing its analog broadcasts. You can continue watching WUTB on our digital channel 24-1. I was like, What the f*** are they doing. I had to run out with a credit card and buy 4 DTV converter boxes for my other TVs.

  • I found it cool how when they turned off the transmitter the picture froze and faded out.

  • The rest of the stations in the area go digital on June 12 also. Only two stations switched on Feb. 17, WITF (the station in this video) and WLYH. WLYH switched to digital at midnight, so I was unable to record it as well. As you can see I have satellite, so I will be unaffected by the DTV Switch (our TVs all passed recent DTV tests as well). The Outlets at Hershey are great, Glad to see a fan.

  • man you can see all the problems I had and how I resolved them in transitioning to DTV...this is suckytown
