As an person with Asperger's, I have done a lot of research on this issue. The incidence of autism corresponds with the expansion of the definition autism to include Asperger's. That, combined with better awareness of higher-functioning autism and the usual faddish misdiagnoses explain why the numbers went up. Had my parents forgone vaccinating me, I would still have AS, plus a good chance of contracting polio, small pox, and a host of other nasty diseases.

@MikeMarcin Got some information here about the concentration of Hg in vaccines used in the US. Reassuringly, most vaccines used in the US are now Hg free. See
