@datafreak667 if ubuntu doesn't scan for nearby networks you need to install the driver. To do this connect via ethernet and use the Additional Drivers program to install your drivers.

Hey man. on my laptop i have ubuntu 9.10 and it recognizes the NIC, its just that my WIFI is turned OFF. how do i turn WIFI back on?

i try to connect to my wireless network, i put the key in but it takes about 3 mins and says cant connect
i have ubuntu 10.something but when i try to connect to the internet in it it doesnt show any wireless networks around me

@LL1K It would be 10.04 and some Wirless cards are compatable with Linux just you need to connect via an ether net cable to jump start Ubuntu in to downloading the firmware and drivers for the card
