Well, when it started, was this hotel A-list? On the contrary, the hotel is a small boutique hotel in downtown Manhattan, with big chains and names surrounding it. But by creating an audience, a following and fans the hotel got way more interest than with regular methods. That's why social media marketing can be awesome!
