A pseudo documentary using my grandmother's voicemail message explaining why she will not be attending my wedding. And why my fifteen year-old cousin (who I've been close to all his life) will not be allowed to attend either. And in which you meet my Sam...the reason everything will be okay no matter what.

When I say it gets better...this is what I mean. Not everyone will support you, and sometimes you may feel like you've lost any sense of having a home or any place to return to. But if you build your life around people who love you, you will find that home exists wherever you are. Living in your truck, or in an apartment hundreds of miles from where you were born, or on somebody's couch for a while. Wherever you go, you will be at home in yourself, and other people will find their home in you. That is family.

This is my happiness; and all of this coming from me--someone who, for a while, thought she'd spend most of her life alone.

  • Your amazing for making this video. You both seem extremely happy. I have been with my girlfriend for 2 and a half years and there are still those family members who dont think our relashonship is real. I am happier than I have ever been and cant wait till the day we can get married. <3

  • @jocelynco415 Only time will convince some people of the "realness" of any relationship. And even then, they may never acknowledge it. And to that, we can only say, oh well. You don't have to convince anybody. I wish you both happiness and love, whether it comes from your families or elsewhere. :)

  • I'm so sorry for not being able to respond to each of you individually. The response to this video was truly astounding to me and has continued to remind me that love and kindness do exist, and in even greater quantities than intolerance and bigotry. We can't thank you enough for your loving words of support. It has inspired and moved us both and has opened the eyes of our families in ways we never thought possible. Thank you. (And yes, wedding footage coming soon to a computer screen near you!)

  • I had some of the same kind of response coming from my family when we got married too! My mom out right refused to come even those she loves my wife! God will send her to hell just for watching us get married! Unfortunately I let them over shadow my day! I hope you were able to put them out of your mind for that day cause I didnt and it was the one thing about that day I regret, the one thing that wasnt perfect!

  • @Dana102602 @Dana102602 I'm really sorry to hear that. My grandma did not end up coming to the wedding, but my father did and he actually gave a speech! It was amazing who did come and the whole day was perfect. In all honesty, the best day of my life...(except maybe for our first day of our honeymoon when we first walked into Harry Potter World... :)

  • @Dana

I hope that things get easier for your mom and that she can begin to reconcile her beliefs someday. It's possible. My dad hardly spoke to me for over a year and said some pretty terrible things. Now he and his biker friends talk about being jealous of what a good relationship Sam and I have together. Best wishes to you and your wife. Take care of one another, above all else.

  • Silly Grandma, love is for everyone.

  • Having the same struggle with my mother. Seems like it hurts more when it comes from someone so close. But I think you two are beautiful, and happy, and loved by God. Thank you for sharing. Continue to love!
