25 July 1946, Baker underwater detonation from the "Operation Crossroads" series of nuclear tests (2 shots) using the same type of weapon as the one used at Trinity (Jul 16, 1945) & Nagasaki (9 Aug 1945). Little was known (then) about the extent of residual radioactivity & fallouts. The explosion lifted a 2-million ton core of water & sand in the atmosphere. The sound track was added since this clip was used over & over in various press/TV/film releases because of its spectacular appearance.
