The MI Deaf Community has been drastically and excessively impacted by cuts. First, the MSU Deaf Education program closure where there will no longer be any teachers of the deaf who can sign with their deaf students, the Michigan School of the Deaf's property sale. The lease for that is temporary, and odds are it will cease to exist after 7 years. Now, the Lansing Community College Interpreter Training Program (ITP) is facing a closure due the rationale that the graduates are not passing the BEI. The LCC ITP program provides 51% of the interpreters in the state, and is the top ranked in the state, and 5th in the country. This will have a deeply adverse impact on the Deaf Community. Please send emails to the LCC President, Provost, your legislators and the governor to protest this.

  • LCC says it's because the graduates aren't passing the BEI.

    People did inform Deaf Michiganders about the MSD situation. Freida Morrisson vlogged about this several times. Do not blame ME for this!

  • I don't have time to caption my video today. There will be a full transcript posted on my blog.

  • Did the LCC articulate a reason (or two) about why they're considering the closure of their ITP?

    BTW, Michigan is not alone in its struggles. In South Florida, a major metropolitian area of 5.5 million people, there is no Deaf Services agency.

    I truly empathize with the Deaf people of Michigan and I hope things will turn around soon. Since LCC is a state institution, litigation may be a last resort.

  • @deafpundit, Why you waiting until Last minutes? since I learned that MSD sold to Private school. No one informed to Deaf Michiganders. who is making their responsible to makes announcements to Deaf Michiganders? I don't see any websites for Michigan... too late for that.

  • fishy.. sell land that was an income producing property.. hearing should never represent the deaf community.. anyway.. it's like trying to herd wild deer..

  • see this today please: it's important, this site disallows a webaddress,, yet see jess's blog, it's called jaelstrom and then you know com;

    otherwise you are preaching to the converted, know what we mean?
