Violent attack performed by Gaia-worshipping eco-nutters, Sea Shepherd. Obviously these people know no limits.

  • @Task5003 - You may be right. There may be a global moratorium on killing whales commercially, but not for research. There are how many nations that still hunt whales commercially? Denmark, Norway, Russia, Equador and Japan. Why are they picking on Japan when they know research is allowed under international mandate? Why doesn't ANY country, come after Japan and enforce those so-called laws? Australia? New Zealand? The US? The UK?

  • @NAGGERNUTZ Yes, they can hunt whales for research. That's the only reason it's acceptable. There is a global moratorium on whaling, and Japan is violating it. Say what you want, the law is clear; Japan is acting illegally. You're right in saying the whales hunted are not endangered, but that's irrelevant, the law bans whaling. Like it or not as a non-governmental group enforcing conservation laws in international waters SSCS are not breaking the law.

  • @Task5003 - Right. There's a loop hole in the law and it's in there intentionally. Countries have been whaling for centuries. It wasn't until the advent of petrochemicals in the beginning of the 20th century that whaling slowed almost to a halt. Despite that, rights groups still try to use the "endangered species" tactic. There are no endangered species. Even the rights groups can't agree on what species are endangered. They all list different species. Japan is operating legally.

  • @NAGGERNUTZ Yes, you have to give it to them; they try as hard as they possibly can to hide their true intentions. Sadly, we all know they're not actually conducting scientific research. The whale meat market in Japan is very large.

They only added 'RESEARCH' to their vessels after the ICRW made it illegal to hunt whales for purposes other than scientific research. If you think the Japanese are peaceful, or respectful of animal rights, you should watch the documentary 'The Cove'.

  • @Task5003 - Continued... If you'll watch ANY of the videos from the Discovery Channel or other private video, you'll see "research" plastered all over the Japanese ships. They even hold up signs... "weighing stomach contents" etc. The Sea Shepherds are lucky that the Japanese are a peaceful, non-violent people. Probably any other country would have taken extreme measures to protect their researchers. Nothing is being done by the international community because Japan is operating within the law.

  • @NAGGERNUTZ No, it's not. Section 21-24 of the United Nations World Charter for Nature allows private groups, organisations and individuals to uphold international conservation laws in international waters. What SSCS do is legal, what Japan do is not. The international community has no way of enforcing the multiple rulings declaring the whaling vessels' actions illegal. Japan is not hunting for research and they openly admit this, so do the Japanese government (although not on JSD8 forms).

  • @Task5003 - I'm sorry, but vigilantism is against the law also. Two wrongs don't make a right. There is a rule of law. If the international community can't enforce laws against Japan, then Japan isn't breaking any laws. The law specifically states that research is legal and the meat can be sold on the market rather than be wasted. Nobody can prove that Japan isn't hunting for research. If you still feel that Japan is wrong, then punish them legally and in the courts.

  • @NAGGERNUTZ Because hunting whales for purposes other than medical or scientific research violates international law. The international community cannot enforce this, so someone has to.

  • Reading your comments I can summarize that you damn Japanese have no respect to the nature.

Imagine all animals will be killed by the Japanese. Are you happy then? I don't think so. The world will hate Japan then if only they killed a few species of whales because they firstly don't farm it like Europeans and Americans do with pigs, cows, chickens etc and secondly they only want to eat it.

    Creepy.

  • Geschieht den Walfängern nur zu recht.
